Sigmund-Thun-Klamm: Spring peak season in Kaprun — Nature at full force
If you are looking for a dramatic spring experience without skis, Kaprun has a clear answer: Sigmund-Thun-Klamm. This natural gorge, where the Kapruner Ache has carved its way through rock to a depth of 30 meters over a length of 320 meters over millennia, is most impressive right at the turn of April and May.
Spring snowmelt on the Kitzsteinhorn sends vast amounts of water roaring into the gorge — waterfalls thunder and cool spray refreshes visitors on the wooden walkways and bridges. It is an experience that photographs can barely capture. The gorge is open and admission is included in the Zell am See–Kaprun Sommerkarte valid from May 15.
The Kaprun region offers a wide array of excursions in spring: boat trips on the high mountain reservoirs (Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden at 2,000 meters elevation), cable car rides up to the Kitzsteinhorn, and initial hiking trails beneath the Hohe Tauern.
